CAP

Community‑acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a common and significant cause of acute illness in adults in the United States. CAP leads to about 1.4 million emergency department visits and roughly 740,000 hospitalizations each year. More detailed epidemiologic surveillance published in JAMA Network Open in 2025, noted that the annual incidence of CAP hospitalization among adults is approximately 340 per 100,000 adults, highlighting its substantial population-level burden. Together, these data show that CAP remains a highly prevalent disease in adults and a major driver of hospital utilization in the U.S. Learn more about CAP symptoms, diagnosis and management using the PowerPoint module and associated Video below.
